His artistic career began with voluntary work at the Museo de Arte de Ponce and his participation in educational programs at the 54th Venice  Biennale. In 2018, Rivera Príncipe decided to venture into tailoring at the Academia Serrant, exploring fashion as an artistic expression. The following year, he was awarded the Mella Russo Scholarship to study Fine Arts at the Altos de Chavón School of Design and exhibited at the MECA international art fair. His career is solidified by his inclusion in collections and his participation in  exhibitions such as \"La Piedra Vulnerable\", \"Jurutungo\", and \"Amantes de la Noche”\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: center;\"\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: center;\"\u003eARTIST STATEMENT\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: center;\"\u003eMy artistic practice is rooted in drawing and painting as mediums to explore the fluvial landscape and the deep spiritual connection between human beings and the natural environment. Inspired by the river of my upbringing, my work becomes a constant search for the self—a journey through different bodies of water across Puerto Rico that act as thresholds for introspection and peace. Within these pieces, the river is not merely a decorative element, but the protagonist and a direct link to a mystical and cosmic plane.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: center;\"\u003eThrough the representation of nocturnal landscapes and starry skies, I seek to capture the spiritual dimension that envelops our existence. These settings transform into spaces of communion where time seems to stand still, inviting a gaze toward the infinite. In this dialogue between the earth and the cosmos, stones assume a fundamental relevance; far from being inert objects, they are conceived as entities and containers of vital energy and a memory that transcends generations.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: center;\"\u003eSubtly, my work engages in a conversation with the knowledge and heritage of those who inhabited this same environment before us. By dwelling in, traversing, and painting these spaces, I re-interpret that sacred relationship with nature that we have inherited. El nombre que le doy a la \u003cbr\u003epieza, es una combinación de dos palabras, Ití, que significa liquido que emana de un cuerpo o elemento (savia de plantas, sangre de una herida, fluido de los ojos, lagrimas), y Cuyá,que es el término para los astros o las estrellas, de esta forma Ití Cuyá propone ser “lágrimas de las estrellas”.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEn mi pintura, retrato el paisaje de un río como espíritu que mantiene viva una herencia \u003cbr\u003egeológica y una conexión con nuestros ancestros, siendo éste el eje principal en la vida de todas las generaciones. La lluvia, como una concentración de estrellas fugaces cae formando ríos desde lo alto, y desemboca en nuestro presente. He utilizado este tono turquesa como color principal ya que es un color que se asocia al caribe por sus memorables playas y porque está presente en las aguas de las montañas, en las aguas que contiene el carso; de esta forma llevo la mirada a la fuente que dio vida a nuestra identidad.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eENGLISH:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eItí Cuyá is a work inspired by the Caribbean aboriginal worldview, primarily by the figure of Boinayel, the god who wept to bless the earth. The name I give to the piece is a combination of two words: Ití, which means liquid that emanates from a body or element (plant sap, blood from a wound, fluid from the eyes, tears), and Cuyá, which is the term for celestial bodies or stars. Thus, Ití Cuyá proposes to be “tears of the stars.” In my painting, I portray the landscape of a river as a spirit that keeps alive a geological heritage and a connection with our ancestors, this being the main axis in the lives of all generations. The rain, like a concentration of shooting stars, falls forming rivers from above and flows into our present.
