Creció en la sabana sucreña rodeado de un entorno de juglares, tradiciones caribeñas y expresiones folclóricas como el porro, la cumbia y el mapalé, elementos que nutrieron profundamente su sensibilidad artística desde la infancia. Al descubrir su destreza innata para el dibujo, su madre lo inscribió en el Colegio Técnico Industrial Antonio Prieto de Sincelejo, donde el maestro Ramiro Blanco encauzó formalmente su pasión hacia las\u003cbr\u003eartes plásticas, el diseño y el color. En 1991 ingresó a la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Sincelejo y obtuvo el Premio Alejandro Obregón en categoría juvenil. Posteriormente se trasladó a Bogotá y luego a Caracas, Venezuela, donde expandió su formación técnica y matérica en el taller de Julio Díaz. A lo largo de su trayectoria, su obra ha transitado por el hiperrealismo, el costumbrismo y el realismo mágico, explorando el volumen a través de la experimentación con texturas y colores cálidos que retratan\u003cbr\u003ela esencia y los personajes del trópico colombiano. He grew up in the Sucre savanna, surrounded by a world of minstrels, Caribbean traditions, and folkloric expressions such as porro, cumbia, and mapalé, elements that profoundly nourished his artistic sensibility from childhood. Upon discovering his innate talent for drawing, his mother enrolled him in the Antonio Prieto Industrial Technical School in Sincelejo, where the master Ramiro Blanco formally channeled his passion for the visual arts, design, and color. In 1991, he entered the School of Fine Arts in Sincelejo and won the Alejandro Obregón Prize in the youth category. He later moved to Bogotá and then to Caracas, Venezuela, where he expanded his technical and material training in the workshop of Julio Díaz. Throughout his career, his work has explored hyperrealism, costumbrismo, and magical realism, exploring volume through experimentation with textures and warm colors that portray the essence and characters of the Colombian tropics. Para plasmar esto, la obra incorpora pedazos de maderas que reflejan todos aquellos naufragios que están debajo de sus aguas, siendo testigos silenciosos de nuestra existencia y de las tragedias ocurridas en el pasado; eventos que hoy en el presente pueden volver a ocurrir por distintos factores como una amenaza nuclear, un pedazo de roca proveniente del espacio o el cambio climático. This could happen through a global cataclysm; the tension in the current geopolitical sphere and the dispute over territories by economic powers present me with situations in which that entire beautiful sea becomes a desert and our precious islands are transformed into immense embankments of arid and dusty land. To depict this, the work incorporates pieces of wood that reflect all those shipwrecks that lie beneath its waters, silent witnesses to our existence and the tragedies that occurred in the past; events that today, in the present, could happen again due to various factors such as a nuclear threat, a piece of rock from space, or climate change. The visual proposal delves into the collective anguish and despair of coastal communities facing the imminent siege of foreign powers. In this scenario of geopolitical vulnerability, the work pays a stark homage to the local fisherman: the most fragile link in the chain, stripped of his maritime sovereignty and deprived of the daily sustenance to survive.
