Artist Statement

Through drawing, painting, and digital works, I explore the interplay
between various aspects of urban life in Santo Domingo. Informed by my
background in architecture, the built environment's influence on its
inhabitants becomes a focal point of my questioning.
As I depict contrasting elements of my surroundings, I seek harmony within
the images I compose. The contradictory and unexpected nature of the
urban landscape in my place of origin seems to dictate a disruption of
balance through tension-building elements. Perhaps this dynamic has led to
a pursuit of beauty in the uncertain and ever-changing.
Intrigued by depictions of collective visual identities and their significance,
I seek to construct my point of view while recognizing and respecting that I
am shaped by my context, shared experiences, and the history of my
community.
