Alakondre is inspired by the Surinamese concept of a place where everything comes together. Through abstract forms, flowing lines and colors, the paintings explore connection, diversity, and the idea that many different energies can exist within a greater whole.
The inspiration for this work is personal. The artist’s paternal grandparents lived in Suriname, creating a lasting connection to the country’s culture and traditions. An ongoing interest in Winti spirituality, with its emphasis on energy, ancestry, and interconnectedness, continues to influence the artist’s practice.
In the context of Caribbean Soul, Alakondre I & II reflects the Caribbean as a meeting place of cultures, histories, and identities—a shared spirit shaped by diversity, resilience, and connection.
