Description:
I’m exploring women's bodies and their relationship with our cultural, racialized preferences and social environment, and how our comparative nature can develop
insecurities. Leading to an obsessive process of self-evolution through various beautification processes.
Questioning the constant state of re-evaluation of the self, I’m creating landscapes driven by internalised experiences, using multiple nostalgic elements as an escape and reprieve from a demanding reality, for these altered figures, inserting these transformed figures into a morphed yet familiar world.
Inspired by the topic ‘Caribbean soul’, I have decided to revisit my childhood experiences, growing up in Barbados. I am focusing on my sense of fantasy/paradise using old family photos and objects dear to me as references. This version of myself
explores travelling through time to fond moments of intimate Birthday celebrations with my family, surrounded by a time capsule of homemade cakes, while in our old chattel house. I remember watching my mother make them each time, the excitement to taste the batter, and my absolute joy in helping decorate them.
