The two Caribbean Soul paintings, Chattel at Bath Beach, Barbados and Nose To The Wind, Bath Beach, Barbados, are oil on sandpaper works from 2026.
The works are rooted in Daniel Chrichlow’s ongoing exploration of place, discovery and belonging in Barbados.
Both paintings are inspired by Bath Beach on the island’s east coast, a location that has become personally significant to the artist for its quiet spiritual pull, its baptisms in the sea, shaded picnic tables, shallow water and weathered chattel houses.
The sandpaper surface gives the oil paint a raw, tactile energy that feels closely tied to island life: resourceful, unprecious and shaped by what is immediately available.
Together, the works capture not simply a view, but the feeling of finding a place that holds memory, atmosphere and soul.
