Description:

Heritage Estate was the name of the Plantation/Property that my late Father’s family live on/were slaves on/owned? Nobody seems to know for sure. Some of the 36 acres of land was passed down to him and maybe 100 others. It is virtually impossible to claim/settle.

It has been a fascination of mine. The whole question of inheritance in this post? Colonial space. We the descendants of a slave society. The irony of the name ‘Heritage’ is not lost on me. I think it is  a challenge to come to a place of acceptance? Challenge? Reclamation?

My father died and left me our family house in La Horquetta. He pined for the life he left behind in Guayaguyare. He planted every possible tree in the green place in the immense concrete spread. He brought his ‘Countryside’ to ‘Town.

These pieces are a tribute to Heritage. His, Mine, Ours.
