By the shadow of a light/ by the light of a shadow is a double paneled oil and pencil painting/drawing piece, two parts that become one as they parallel each other while depicting two faces of the same coin. these pieces mirror the concept behind the first piece”Calypso at the shore“ in that they explore an accumulation of parallels
what I mean by this is; we are everything we have seen and experienced and in that way you can consider being (Caribbean) quite literally if you think about it that way. The figures in the pieces are mutable with the flora, fauna and infrastructure observable in Trinidad. It is also a commentary on the dual nature of ones soul itself, while situated in Caribbean context. In all sides of ourselves resides somewhere, if only even secretly the other sides of ourselves.
